Youth Citizen of the Year Award
An award established to reward youth and encourage the values of community service and volunteerism.
The Rotary Club of Burns Lake is comprised of members who value altruism through community and international service.
The Youth Citizen of the Year Award was established by the club in 1996 in order to encourage and reward the young people in our community who embrace this same value through volunteerism. In June 2007, the award was renamed “The Bill Gilgan Youth Citizen ofthe Year Award” in honor of founding Rotarian Bill Gilgan. Bill, who recently celebrated his 90th Birthday, has been an active member ofour club since its inception in 1953.
Eligible candidates are people between the ages of 12 and 21, residing in the Lakes District, who have made an outstanding contribution to the community through volunteer activities involving service to others. The recipient receives $250 and the nominator receives $250 to donate to a charitable organization. Nomination forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce and the College of New Caledonia. A nomination may also be made by writing a letter to the Club outlining the nominee’s contributions and mailing it to:
